Ezekiel 22:30 (KJV), And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
Isaiah 63:5 (KJV), And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.
We cannot overemphasize the importance of prayers in this season. Child of God, the ministry of intercession is under attack by Satan because he knows that if there is a man to pray, there is a God to answer. Satan knows that when intercessors go on their knees, they obstruct his plans and interpose God’s will.
To be called an intercessor is to be called into the duty of standing in the gap for others.
What does it mean to intercede?
- It is to stand in the gap
- It is to mediate
- It is to intervene
- It is to come between parties
- It is to plead for the mercies of God on behalf of someone
- It is to pray for someone else, about something that does not directly relate to you.
Many great men and women in the bible were intercessors.
Four great intercessors in the bible
1. Nehemiah
The heart of Nehemiah was moved when he heard the suffering of the people and the shame of Jerusalem’s broken walls. He went on a fast and began to intercede for Jerusalem. It was during that season that God moved him into action, and Nehemiah rebuilt the walls and restored the glory of Jerusalem.
2. Abraham our father of faith
Father Abraham, our father of Faith was a great intercessor. We must strive to be like our father. One of the characteristics of sons is that they do what their fathers do. Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah when he heard it was going to be destroyed. In Genesis 18:23-33, we see Abraham dialoguing with the Lord and pleading on behalf of the righteous in Sodom and Gomorrah. “And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”
3. Moses was an intercessor
Moses was one of the greatest intercessor that ever lived. The Lord calls him the meekest man upon the face of the earth. God also boasts about him that he does not speak to every prophet with dreams and visions, but with Moses as a prophet, He speaks to him Face to Face. Moses interceded for his sister Miriam to be healed. “Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "O God, heal her, I pray!" (Numbers 12:13)
4. Jeremiah was an intercessor
Jeremiah was often referred to as the weeping Prophet because he was a man that carried the burden of the people. Prophet Jeremiah was an intercessor, who in the book of lamentations lamented the judgment that the sins of the people had brought upon them and Jerusalem.
Do we know that every priest functions as an intercessor?
A priest stands in the gap and intervenes on behalf the people of God. The function of a priest is not to pray for themselves only, like most believers do today. Many of us are so consumed with our needs and challenges that we don’t spare any prayers for anyone or anything else.
God knows that many of us will be failing in our duties as New Testament priest that's why He made two of the Godhead to intercede for us daily.
1. The Holy Spirit is making intercession for us
When we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
2. The Lord Jesus is making Intercessions for us
Jesus is sat at the right of God making intercession, standing in the gap for us.
Romans 8:34 “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us”
- It is a sin not to pray for someone, especially the church and the entire body of Christ.
1 Samuel 12:23 (KJV), Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way
- God is calling us into action. We will be having a three days all-night service from Wednesday 27th till 29th of July. I call it a Prayer Tornado.
I know this is not for everybody but I wish that all of you who are genuine sons and daughters of this commission would participate in this Prayer Tornado. I pray that the plans and activities of the devil will be frustrated in this season in Jesus name!
May the grace of God for intercession be released upon you and the church in Jesus name! Every intercessor that the enemy has disposed from their position of assignment, today I pray that you be empowered and restored in Jesus name!
Revealing,Inspiring,Awesome.
