Mark 4:38-40, But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are perishing?” Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence! He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm. “Why are you so afraid?” He asked. “Do you still have no faith?
Welcome to the month of July. This month God’s word for you is that you have rest on every side. We are in the middle of a worldwide economic storm. The recent referendum in the UK has brought fears and uncertainties in the country and throughout the European Union, but as children of God, I want you to know that you are in the hand of God and whatever is in God’s hands cannot fail. You are secured in His hands.
Isaiah 49:16, See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem's walls in ruins
What is a storm?
- It is a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually accompanied by rain, thunder, lightning or snow
- It can be a sudden trouble or serious commotion
- It is a dangerous situation that looks like you would not survive in
Storms can be used to describe the challenges of life, and you may be in your own storm right now. In life challenges varies; there are economic challenges, family challenges, marital challenges, career challenges, health challenges and spiritual challenges.
Child of God, never get drowned by the fear of a storm. There is a reason for every storm. Storms arise when you are about to cross to the other side. No storm arises at the best time, but whenever there is a storm we must ensure that we have Jesus on board. Just like the disciples, they were not alone.
Five Things that Guarantees our Rest in the Midst of the Storm
1. We are in God’s hands
Jesus was sleeping in the midst of the shaking around him because He knew He was in God’s Hands. We must believe that nothing can separate us from the love of God! In every situation the Lord is with us.
2. We are an eagle
Eagles are not afraid of the storms, they manifest their majestic strength in the midst of a storm. Eagles don’t struggle in storms, they soar above storms, it pushes them higher!
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
3. We are always connected
You connection with God in the midst of the storm is your guarantee of safety. Some years ago, I was in an aircraft that was almost crashing. It was a very turbulent flight but as a baby Christian, I saw a great man of God on board and I said if this man of God is on board, we can’t crash!
Do you know that my little faith in just knowing that a great man of God was on board gave me rest? How much more when you have Jesus on board? Never be disconnected from the Lord Jesus, always commit your ways to him.
4. Never lose faith in the word of God
It is the word of God that you believe that will work for you. The word of God is what we must believe not what we hear in the news or read on the news. Beloved, what we hear in the world doesn’t bring faith, it brings serious fear but the word of God is a faith producer and when you have faith in the word of God, you will never be put to shame.
5. We speak the word and rebuke the storm
Jesus rebuked the storm exercising His authority over it. Jesus said to the storm “Be still”! Child of God we have the authority to speak forcefully against the storms of Life!
Mark4:39,“Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence! He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.
Say this” I rebuke you financial storm in Jesus name! I command an overflow of resources into my hands now!
I rebuke you storm of rebellion over my children in Jesus Name! I command my children are peaceful and love instructions Now!
I rebuke you storm of confusion over my life in Jesus name! I receive a clear direction and I am led by the Holy Spirit, I can’t be stranded!
Amen! This is my month of rest in Jesus mighty name!
