THE SPIRIT OF GRATITUDE

Psalm 107:1-3, Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His loving kindness is everlasting. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary. And gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.


Happy Thanksgiving DECC Family! we thank the Lord for His faithfulness! Today we must Celebrate God in the spirit of gratitude.
The word gratitude comes from Latin word gratus which means thankful and pleasing.
When you have the spirit of gratitude, it must manifest! People will see it!
It cannot be hidden!
  • Gratitude is an attitude that will give you altitude in life!
What is gratitude?
1. It means to be thankful
When you are thankful, you will overflow with thanksgiving  
2. It is to be pleased
When you are pleased, it means you have been made glad
Psalm 92:4, For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
3. It is to express and show appreciation
Colossians 3:17, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him
4. It is to return kindness
When David instructed Solomon about the sons of Barzillai, he was returning kindness which is gratitude
1 Kings 2:7, But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table; for they assisted me when I fled from Absalom your brother.
  • We cannot return our kindness to God!
  • We cannot repay God!
What does man have to repay the maker and owner  of all things
Psalm 116:12 (GWT), How can I repay the LORD for all the good that he has done for me?
5. It is to recognise kindness
Many people  do not recognise kindness, they think it is their right, or they deserve it
If we cannot express our gratitude
  • It means we are ingrates
  • It shows we are inconsiderate
  • It means you are thankless
  • It means you are thoughtless

Four reasons why we must express our gratitude to God!
1. God is a good God
  • The meaning of this is you cannot separate good from God
  • It is God’s character to be good
One day a man called Jesus a good man but Jesus said no man is good except God.
Mark 10:18 (NLT), Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked. "Only God is truly good.
The reason being that Jesus was telling us that man’s goodness is nothing
  • God is too good that He keeps no record for wrongs
  • When man is good to us, they expect it in return but not God!
Church has God been good to anyone here?
If God has been good to you, then give him a shout of praise!!!
2. God’s loving kindness is for everlasting
  • The meaning of this is that God’s loving kindness does not end, it is endless
Jeremiah 31:3, The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.
  • God is looking for more ways to show us His loving kindness everyday
  • God’s loving kindness is trans-generational
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob enjoyed the loving kindness of God!!!
I declare that this is your portion in Jesus name!
3. God has redeemed us from the hand of our adversary
What does it mean to be redeemed from the hand of the adversary?
  • This is divine intervention
  • This is when God rescues us from the devises of our enemies
  • When the devil and his agents attacked but God defended you and delivered
  • Many of us who are here today will not be here if not that God redeemed us!
A brother in our Lagos church fell from the rooftop where he went to fix something because the ladder broke. He fell and landed on the gate house roof, the roof caved in by the force of the fall and he found himself on the bed of the gatehouse! He just had minor injuries!
This is what is called Wonders beyond Number.
  • Many do not survive that but God redeemed him from the hands of the enemy!
  • I know that from January till now, you have been redeemed several times!
This is a great reason to express your gratitude by giving God thanks!
4. He has gathered us to Himself
Today we are from different continents here and from different races but are one in Christ because God has gathered us to Himself!
  • What a privilege to be called the children of the most high God
  • He chose us and brought us close to Himself because He loved us
  • He chose us, and made us fruit producers
John 15:16 (NLT), You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.
  • God gave us His identity when He gathered us to Himself
1 John 3:1(NIV), See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
  • God has lavished His love on us! We must thank Him!
When you are full of gratitude and you do not show it, you are like a person who has wrapped a present but never delivered it!
Three practical ways to Express Your Gratitude Today
1. By giving God high sacrifice of praise
  • Praise must be demonstrated
  • Praise without dancing and singing is to refuse to enter into the palace of the King of Kings because the official key for your entrance is singing and dancing which is an expression of your gratitude and gladness!
Psalm 100:2 (NLT), Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
2. By giving God an offering of thanksgiving
Your offering is a substance in your hand to show your appreciation!
  • It can also be a vow you have made to the Lord
Psalm 50:14 (NIV), "Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
3. By sharing a testimony, authenticating that He is a good God
Nebuchadnezzar even testified! If a man like this king could testify how much more you?
Daniel 4:2 (NIV), It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.
  • I prophesy that as we celebrate our God today in genuine spirit of gratitude that 2017 will be a year of overflow of great things in your life!
  • Whatever God needs to do for you in 2016, I command it done by your thanksgiving today in Jesus name!!!
