Joshua 1:17 22-25
17 Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 22 But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23 And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel. 24 But they burned the city and all that was in it with fire. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
- God is a covenant keeping God and He will never lie, what He does for one, He will do for many.
- This message is carrying a very strong unction for preservation and exemption for this commission and all who are genuinely connected to this prophetic platform.
Rahab was a prostitute but she loved God. I think this sounds strange to us. How is it possible that someone who is a prostitute will be a lover of God? Now we see that in what she did when she saw the spies. She decided to help the men of Israel against her own country Jericho because she was in love with the God of Israel .
Joshua 2:4-6
4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” 6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.)
Many of us are still at crossroads between the will of God and the satanic traditions of our family and cultures but this woman disowned her country to embrace the God of Israel.
Six things that Rahab did
1.She proved her love for the Lord
Many people who are in church and so called born-again say they love God but can not prove their love for God. When we say we love God we must prove our love for Him. This is the manifestation of our love for God by our actions and our heartfelt commitment to Him.
God proved His love for us by giving us His one and only begotten son to die in our place (John 3:16)
Rahab proved she loved God by going out of her way and risking her life, she did not care because she was in love with God.
Many of us will never go out of our way to please God, how much more to risk our lives for the Lord? Many of us love our relationships with men than that with God. We will be happy to cancel church to keep our ungodly appointments and friends. I pray for you today, May you love God genuinely in Jesus name!
2.She testified about great things God has been doing
Rahab testified of the wonders of God, she celebrated the almightiness of the God of Israel.
Beloved whenever you testify, you are celebrating the bigness, greatness and almightiness of God and disgracing the smallness of the enemy!
Do not sit on your testimony because when you testify you position yourself for exemption!
When you celebrate God, God will make you to be celebrated!!!
3.She knew that God will take over her city
What Rahab had heard made her know that God will bring down Jericho.
This is faith in a God she was in love with and a God she did not know. Beloved why do you doubt the ability of God in that challenge you are going through?
If a harlot can see God taking down her city, can’t you see God doing that miracle?
I exhort you to begin to see God as a God of all possibilities because nothing is too hard for Him to do.
4.She made a covenant to ensure her preservation.
Rahab made an agreement with the spies to ensure that they will ensure she and her household are preserved. She knew that God was a covenant keeping God and that the worshippers of God must be like their God who keeps covenant.
In the dispensation that we live in, God has made a covenant to ensure our preservation. We just need to activate it by believing and trusting God’s word.
5.She used a type of the blood of Jesus as a sign on her house.
Do you know that Rahab tied a Red scarlet on her window as a sign of her exemption?
Joshua 2:18 “When we come into the land, you must leave this scarlet rope hanging from the window through which you let us down. And all your family members--your father, mother, brothers, and all your relatives--must be here inside the house”.
- She didn’t know that scarlet cord was invoking a type of the blood of Jesus for her exemption.
Exodus 12:13 “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt”
- Whenever you invoke the blood of Jesus, you’re activating the Law of exemption!
- Plead the blood now and you will be exempted in Jesus name!
6.She and her household was exempted in Jericho.
God used Rahab to save her entire household, this is God’s will for you!
She wasn’t selfish and self centered. Rahab a prostitute had the salvation of her family in her mind.This is practical Love! Do you think of your unsaved family? Never forget them, don’t go to heaven alone.
Acts 16:31 says “They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household."
- When God saved you , He had your household in mind. You must work it out by praying for them and sowing faith seeds into their lives.
- I declare that your family and all your loved ones will be exempted from every destruction in Jesus name!
God honoured her Love for Him by granting her Jewish status.
Many of us are so excited to become British citizens, it is a serious prayer request, an expectation and when that day comes it's like all your challenges are over.
In Britain you must pass a citizen test to become a citizen but Rahab passed a Love test!
Do you know that becoming a British citizen is not an exemption from destruction?
I have always preached that the way you’re striving for your british passport, strive more for heaven’s passport. I remember sometime ago I saw a guy who had a british passport but the Holy Ghost showed me a vision that it was torn in pieces and I prophesied over him to serve God because the enemy wants to waste his Life, after two years this guy was killed by a hit and run driver in Beeston Leeds, what a waste of Life.
- Rahab got an eternal citizenship, God accepted her into the commonwealth of Israel.
- Rahab become an ancestor of Jesus, what a honour.
Matt.1:5 “Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse.”
- Today I declare over you that You and your household will not be victims in Jesus name!
- I plead the Blood of Jesus over you and declare that the Blood speaks your exemption now in Jesus name!
